Catch of the Day July 3, 2011

Today's catch of the day was a GIGANTIC 31-1/2" Walleye, which was caught by Tanya Sorensen from Fairbanks, AK. This Walleye has a story that will be told in their family for years to come.  Tanya and her husband Jens were visiting one of their family members, which just happens to be one of our good buddies, Charlie Regenfuss over the July 4th holiday weekend on Lake of the Woods.  The story begins like this...it was Tanya and Jens first time walleye fishing on Lake of the Woods, so Charlie was going to show them what it's all about.  They made it out to 32' of water and dropped the anchor.  They jigged for a while with not the best of results, so Charlie went to start the engine to move to another one of his many secret honey holes on Lake of the Woods, but the motor wouldn't start.  They had to call in the rescue team consisting of Doug "The Surgeon" Hagen and one of Doug's buddies.  As they were being towed in by the Surgeon, wiley Charlie decided to drop the down riggers and do some stealth trolling.  The move paid off for Charlie's sister-in-law Tanya, who is pictured above.  This was her first Walleye on Lake of the Woods, talk about hitting a grand slam in the 7th game of the World Series in your first at bat!  Congratulations Tanya for this amazing story, it's your's to tell for the rest of your life and we're honored to have it being told about Lake of the Woods, the Walleye Capital of the World!
